There is a simple process to commission some unique glass art for the external facades of your building or internal areas and is as follows…Commissions
Whether for your own home, workspace or as a gift to your church or community centre it’s easy to commission artworks.
Initially you will probably have an idea of the space to which you wish to add some art glass so we can discuss your requirements with you regarding themes and possible designs and consider some preliminary budget requirements at the same time.
Once we have agreed on an idea for the piece, the next stage is for us to make some preliminary sketches of how the finished item will look. This involves a small design fee.
When you are happy with these drawings, we will agree on a price and if you would then like to proceed we can formalize the agreement and start developing the specific design with input from as necessary from you as the client.In order to commence fabrication of the glass we then require a 25% initial payment and we will commence work, with stage payment as necessary but as agreed.
Upon completion of the work we can arrange for it to be shipped to where ever you may be located, or if in the U.K arrange for it to be installed. This is the general idea but circumstances can be developed to meet the specific needs of any client.
Similarly you can commission any other type of glass art that you wish on a similar basis to commissioning a window.
Approximate costs for large scale works (excluding on-site installation)
(a) Simple sand blasted or kiln formed clear glass from £300/m2
(b) Simple leaded coloured glass from £500/m2
(c) Use of specialist hand blown glass from £2,500/m2
(d) Glass painting, detailed etching, fused glass etc from £2,500/m2
Of course you can simply buy any art works that we currently have for sale, or select a piece of art work from or similar to the images contained in the gallery and we can make the artwork especially for you.
Consultancy
Glass Art by Ray Collins offers a full range of consultancy service for glass art for both the artists and the client.
The commissioning of architectural or art glass is quite a unique process and advice is needed to ensure that works are commissioned with a degree of impartiality and transparency.
There are very few (if any) specific glass consultants providing impartial and transparent advice together with administrative services to the art glass industry and likewise purchasers of architectural or art glass have little knowledge of the glass industry and are reliant upon glass artists for guidance with respect to their services which for obvious reasons may not necessarily be impartial. Similarly many glass artists do not have the contractual or administrative experience or knowledge to properly deal with the aspects of the construction and property development industry within which architectural and art glass exists.
In order to provide a degree of diversity, Glass Art by Ray Collins also undertakes glass commission and produces other commercial and gallery glass art.
